Review: Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer

Among the many products Maybelline recently launched, one of them is the Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer. They retail at about $7.49 or so at your local drugstores.

When I passed the display at Target, this product caught my attention because it was a 'highlighting concealer' and I wanted something that would help brighten up certain areas on my face and under eye areas, like my YSL Touché Éclat…but at a more affordable price.

With so many reviews on the Maybelline Age Rewind concealers, I purchased that about two months ago and I'm really loving the concealer and highlighter. However, the highlighter in that line is a pink base. On some days, the pink undertones in that highlighter really works for me and on other days, I want to use a more yellow based highlighter. It depends on how dark my under eye area is or if I'm looking a bit sallow. So long story short, I was really excited to find this pen that came in several yellow undertone shades.

This product is a pen-like concealer, you twist the top a few times and the concealer dispenses through the brush. You only need a little bit of product to get the job done.

What I really like about this product is that it feels very light, it doesn't cake or settle into any fine lines, even after wearing this all day long. I've been using this over my Age Rewind Concealer. So after applying my concealer, I place a little of this highlighting concealer under my eyes and any other areas on my face I feel like needs a little extra brightening. I use a Real Techniques Deluxe Crease brush to blend it all in. (Use any brush to blend or you can also blend with your fingers).

I feel like this highlighting pen really subtly brightens up the areas you want and it just looks natural. When I compare this product to my YSL Touché Éclat, it look identical. Both formulas have yellow undertones, is sheer and lightweight, but still gives a nice coverage and provides a brightening effect.

I think this product is worth a try if you were considering the YSL pen, have the YSL pen but can't see yourself spending another $40 again for the pen, or looking for a product to brighten your overall appearance. If you like the Maybelline Age Rewind highlighter but also prefer to use a yellow base rather than a pink, definitely try this Dream Lumi pen.

I'm very impressed with this product! I recently did makeup for my friend's wedding and I used this pen to highlight under the eyes and around the "marionette lines". The overall look came out beautifully and photographed very well. She looked so beautiful and radiant. This is a product is a definite must try!!

FOTD with Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Tenacious Teal

Here's a look I created using Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hr Eyeshadow in Tenacious Teal.
  • I applied Urban Decay Primer Potion as a base (for non-oily lids, skip this step)
  • Apply Tenacious Teal and pat onto the lids with your finger
  • Apply NYX Autumn Sky on inner 1/3 of lids
  • Apply NYX Maui on center of lids
  • Apply NYX Navy Blue on outer 1/3 of lids
  • Blend to take away harsh edges
  • Apply NYX Morrocco over the Navy Blue on outer 1/3 of lids
  • To deepen the outer corners more, add Blackout (from UD Naked 2 palette)
  • In the crease, apply Tease (from UD Naked 2 palette)
  • As a brow highlight, use Foxy (also from UD Naked 2)
  • Use Maybelline Eyestudio Gel liner in Blackest Black and line upper lash line
  • Apply NYX Morrocco on outer 1/3 of lower lash line, then NYX Velvet Blue on rest of lower lash line.
  • Apply NYX Autumn Sky to inner corners.
  • Apply mascara to both upper and lower lashes.
For cheeks I used NYX Taupe to contour and NYX Peach blush for pop of color.

On the lips is Maybelline ColorSensational lipstick in Make Me Pink with Jordana FYI gloss on top.

(Don't mind the hair or the outfit….was a bored moment on a quiet Saturday lol)

Review: Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hr Eyeshadow Tenacious Teal & Audacious Asphalt

I've bought a lot of new Maybelline products this past week and I'm in the process of trying them out before I post a review.

One of the Maybelline products that I picked up was the new Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadows. The display at my local Target was nearly empty. The only colors remaining was Tenacious Teal and Audacious Asphalt. Both are gorgeous shades.

Tenacious Teal is a bright, cool pool teal blue with bits of silver flecks. Audacious Asphalt is a gunmetal shade with bits of silver flecks in it.

Before I go on, I have to say this product is a dupe for MAC Paintpots!!! The texture and longevity of the product is just like the Paintpots but better. They glide on easily to the skin, it's very pigmented, and last all day on my lids (with and without UD Primer) without any creasing. I also used the Tattoo Eyeshadow as a base to create a peacock eye look of blues and purples (click here for photos of this look). After you apply the Maybelline Tattoo Eyeshadow to the eyes, it has a semi-sticky base that dries quickly (so if you are using as a base, blend fast!) Once it dries, this eyeshadow is going nowhere. It takes a lot of rubbing for it to smudge once its dried. I haven't tested this eyeshadow for 24 hours, but longest I have worn it was nearly 12 hours and it still looked very good on. It's quite difficult to find a great long wearing cream shadow in drugstores, but I think Maybelline did a very fantastic job on this product. It truly is long-wearing, very pigmented, and comes in a variety of colors…very impressed and will be getting more of these as soon as my local Target fills up their stock again.

Maybelline has released 12 shades and while I haven't seen the other shades yet, I'm hoping there are some colors with no flecks in it. Don't get me wrong, I do like the flecks in the shades I purchased. But I think it would be awesome for a drugstore product to be a dupe for MAC Painterly or Soft Ochre, giving a nice variety to their collection. From what I see on other beauty blogs, they have a huge variety of bold vivid shades that would look great on any skin tone and help you be as creative as you can be with your look!

I'm really impressed with the quality of Maybelline products, especially of the more recent products they have launched. It's comforting to know that during these difficult economic times, a girl can look her best and have the tools and products available with a quality and affordable price.

I know some of you must have purchased these! Tell me what you think and what shades you picked up! xo
